The human mind and its operating principles are areas where we have struggled to find well established, consistent principles. Psychology has well over 100 different disciplines explaining the human behavior and the functioning of the mind, but no common view still exists. If we would have solid principles for the mind, we would understand much better why people suffer mentally, now more than ever, although it seems that externally we have more than ever. Chronic stress, burnouts, depression, and many other anxieties are becoming more and more common and it seems difficult to find a cure. We are good at medicating the symptoms but a permanent cure to mental balance seems to be lost.
THERE ARE CLEAR PRINCIPLES BEHIND THE HUMAN MIND
The good news: there are very clear principles explaining how the human mind works and understanding those principles will completely turn around the assumptions/beliefs of where the mental wellbeing (and suffering) comes from. The better you understand how something works, the better you are able to use it. That is no different with the human mind. What could be more valuable than to understand how you operate, day by day, and how your experience of life is formed?
You might ask that if these kinds of principles exist, how come you’ve never heard of them before? A very good question and the same one that I asked when I first heard of them. This is a major paradigm change in how we see the human functioning and we know from history that when we are dealing with a massive change, it takes time to get the message through. There used to be a time when people thought that the sun rotates the earth and not vice versa. It took over hundred years for the new paradigm to take place and it needed a lot of persistent work. That is true for other big paradigm changes as well, e.g. flat vs. round earth, germ theory etc.
YOU FEEL YOUR THINKING, NOT THE OUTSIDE WORLD
The cause of all mental suffering is an innocent misunderstanding: we think that the bad feelings, stress, or any emotions come from the circumstances; work, other people, past, future, from things outside. The truth is completely the opposite: our feelings and our experience come from our own thinking, 100 % of the time. What you think you will feel, every moment. It sounds simple but it’s very difficult to notice it as our mind and senses trick us to believe that external things cause our feelings.
When we understand that the world out there does not cause us to feel anything, there is no need to fix or change things out there. It’s enough to understand your own role in the equation and that makes you see your responsibility. You can no longer blame your circumstances or other people for your bad feelings. When you start to see this in your own life, the freedom and balance is something that I wish everyone could experience and that is why Human Insight exists.
THREE PRINCIPLES AND NEUROSCIENCE
The principles behind the human mind are called the Three Principles, I like to also call them the Inside-out understanding. These Three Principles are Thought, Consciousness and Mind. I will tell about these and their implications in the trainings and coaching, pointing towards them so that it is possible to see how they function in the daily life, whether we are aware of them or not. This is not a method or technique (like mindfulness, NLP, positive thinking etc.) but this is about the principles behind everything we experience.
I am also interested in brain research, the brain is like a processor that the mind uses. It has its limitations and it’s intriguing to learn how the biology determines some of our behavior and tunes our thinking to certain things. I utilize some of the recent findings of neuroscience and latest information about cellular biology in my training, as I find them very useful in bringing more insights on how our thinking fools us and affects us in all levels. Cellular biology has proven already a long time ago that our beliefs affect our cells and thus our health.
The knowledge of the Three Principles has been existing for over 40 years. This approach has been widely used in business, sports, mental counseling, schools, prisons, and other therapy work.
